Who we are
Crosstown Tech is a one-person web design and tech services business based in Chicago, Illinois, run by Christopher. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean Crosstown Tech. Questions about your information can go to ct@crosstowntechchicago.com.
What we collect
When you send the contact form
Your name, email, phone number and business name if you give them, the services you’re interested in, your project details, your timeline, your current website or social page, how you’d like to meet, and how you heard about us.
If you become a client and use the client portal
Your name, email, and project name; a scrambled version of your password (we never store your actual password, and we can’t see it); your project timeline and approvals; the files you upload; answers you type; and messages between you and us.
Technical information
Like any website, our hosting provider automatically receives basic request information such as your IP address and browser type, and keeps short-term logs to run and protect the site. We don’t use analytics, ad tracking, or social media pixels.
How we use it
- To reply to your inquiry and talk with you about your project.
- To plan, build, and support your website or system, including sharing progress in your client portal.
- To prepare for our first conversation. We use an AI tool (Anthropic’s Claude) to summarize new inquiries for us, so we understand what you need before we reach out.
- To keep basic business records, like invoices.
- To keep the site and your account secure, for example by limiting repeated failed logins.
We don’t sell your information, and we don’t use it for advertising.
Who helps us handle it
We use a small number of service providers. They only process your information to provide their service to us:
- Vercel hosts this website and stores inquiries, client portal data, and uploaded files in private storage.
- Resend delivers our emails: the notifications we receive when you send a form, message, or file, and the emails we send you, like confirmations, project updates, and password reset links.
- Google (Gmail and Google Workspace) provides our business email, where notification emails and your messages to us arrive.
- Anthropic provides the AI tool that summarizes new inquiries for us.
- Google Fonts and esm.sh provide the fonts this site uses and the tool that handles portal uploads. Your browser connects to them directly, which shares your IP address with them.
We may also share information if the law requires it.
Cookies
We only use cookies to keep you logged in to the client portal. They’re removed when you log out or they expire. We don’t use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep inquiries and project information for as long as we need them to work with you and keep business records. If you don’t become a client, you can ask us to delete your inquiry at any time. We also keep a private weekly backup, so deleted information may remain in backups for up to two months before it’s fully removed.
How we protect it
Your information is kept in private storage that isn’t publicly reachable. The admin and client portals require a login, passwords are stored only in scrambled form, repeated wrong passwords trigger a temporary lockout, and each client can only see their own project. No system is perfectly secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your information and will let you know if a problem affects it.
Your choices
You can ask us to show you, correct, or delete the information we have about you. Email ct@crosstowntechchicago.com and we’ll respond within 30 days. Clients can also change their portal password at any time.
Children
This site is meant for businesses and adults. We don’t knowingly collect information from children under 13.
Changes to this policy
If we change how we handle your information, we’ll update this page and the date at the top.
